Yet Another Fireworks Explosion in Mexico

Mexico has sadly experienced another fireworks related tragedy, with the second fireworks explosion in a matter of months hitting the country and claiming a number of lives.
This week’s blast, reportedly caused by a rocket being thrown into a house where fireworks were being kept, claimed the lives of 14, with 11 of the dead reported to be children.  22 others were injured. It took place in San Isidro Huilotepec, with the fireworks being stored in preparation for a saint’s day celebration due to take place next week.
The previous explosion, which occurred 200km away in Tutlepec, north of Mexico City, in December, saw 42 die and a further 70 injured.
While fireworks are popular in Mexico and accidents are common, it is rare for there to be fatalities caused by the actions of one person, in this case whoever set the firework off which was subsequently responsible for the larger explosion.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who were injured or lost their lives.
