World Fireworks Championships 2018

The world’s best firework groups will gather to Blackpool this September and participate in the World Fireworks Championships 2018. This exciting competition is going to be entertaining for the whole family and here’s all the information you need to get involved!

World Fireworks Championships 2018

The World Fireworks Championships is an annual event gathering the world’s best teams to Blackpool. The competition is popular among fireworks groups and there isn’t a team in the world that doesn’t want to win it.

The competition is always spread over four nights. There will be three teams and on the final night, aside from the announcement of the winner, there will be a celebratory display. The competitive firework displays must include exhilarating fireworks with a synchronising music to go with the show.

Last year, the winning team came from South Africa and you can see their wonderful fireworks display below:

Here are the details you should know about this year’s event.

When?

The competition will take place on the following nights:

  • Friday September 7
  • Friday September 14
  • Friday September 21

Each night, the build-up starts at 7.30 pm and the team’s performance starts around 8.30 pm.

The final night for the World Fireworks Championships 2018 is Friday, September 28. The UK will hold a Celebration Display, with the winner being announced afterwards.

Do remember that all times and dates are subject to change in the event of bad weather.

Where?

The World Fireworks Championship has a stunning backdrop, as the competition takes place in Blackpool’s North Pier. You can see the displays from many spots along the Tower Festival Headland Promenade. On a clear night, the displays will be visible from further afield too.

Who?

This year, the performing teams come from Europe and North America. The first team to perform on September 7 is Pandora Pyrotechnie from France. On September 14, Romanian team Pyro-Technic will follow them. The last team to compete on September 21 is Firemaster from Canada.

Be part of the excitement

With the world’s best teams preparing for this year’s competition, you should also start making plans to visit Blackpool. The surrounding areas along the Blackpool Pier will get busy, especially if the weather is good. To get a good spot, you want to show up early enough and perhaps enjoy some ice cream while you’re waiting!

Traffic can also be congested so keep this in mind if you’re driving to Blackpool. If you want to stay overnight, you can find tips on accommodation from the Blackpool Tourism website.

The World Fireworks Championship 2018 will also mean there’s plenty of other things going on in the area. Many restaurants, pubs and shops will have special events to celebrate the occasion so you can turn your desire to view the fireworks for a fun holiday in Blackpool. For example, don’t forget to check out the Blackpool Illuminations.

If you feel inspired by what you see in Blackpool, don’t forget to explore the fireworks at Firework Crazy. You can use ideas you get in Blackpool to buy fireworks for your own display – there’s not long to go to Halloween and Bonfire Night!
