Edinburgh’s Hogmanay is a wonderful way to welcome the New Year. How can you watch New Year 2019 Fireworks in Edinburgh and be part of this wonderful event?
Book Your Ticket Now
The New Year 2019 fireworks in Edinburgh take place right under the Edinburgh Castle. There is an official show concluding to the fireworks called Ceilidh Under the Castle. You can buy tickets to the event online, with prices starting from £60.
Another option is to attend the official Edinburgh Street Party. This happens right at the centre of the city, with access points being on Princes Street west end, Princes Street east end and Bank Street. You will be able to watch the fireworks at midnight to the tunes of German techno-marching band Meute. The tickets to the Street Party cost £31.
You can come and go for both of these areas from the moment the gates open until 10 pm. After 10 pm re-entry is not permitted, so don’t forget this! There are lots to do, with plenty of food and drinks available so you won’t really have to leave the area anyway.
Pubs and restaurants in the city centre often have their own unique parties that offer opportunities to view the fireworks. Don’t forget to book these early to ensure you get a spot!
Free Places to Enjoy New Year 2019 Fireworks in Edinburgh
If you don’t want to attend either of these events, you can find free viewing spots across the city. The fireworks will be shot out of Edinburgh Castle and Carlton Hill so you can get a glimpse of the fireworks from anywhere where you can view these landmarks.
Good viewing spots include:
- Lothian Road across the bridge on West Approach Road
- Salisbury Crags
- Blackford Hill
These are all popular spots so you do have to get there early. Don’t forget to dress warmly, as the night can get a bit chilly this time of the year! If the skies are unclear then the further away areas might not be quite as enjoyable for watching fireworks.
3 Days Worth of Fun
Edinburgh doesn’t just spend one day celebrating the New Year. The Hogmanay lasts for three days with different types of festivities taking place across the city. You can find plenty of information from the official website. The events include concerts, art shows and street parties. So, if you want to welcome the New Year 2019 in with a bang, go ahead and get yourself to Edinburgh!
You should also remember the children’s fireworks show taking place earlier on New Year’s Eve. Bairns Afore is an event for children with its own fireworks display over the Edinburgh Castle. The event begins at 5 pm, with the fireworks going off around 6 pm.
