Vancouver Celebration of Light 2018

In 2018 the Vancouver Celebration of Light is returning for its 28th year. The festival is famous for its family-friendly atmosphere and stunning firework shows. Here’s what you need to know about the Vancouver Celebration of Light 2018.

A Renowned Fireworks Competition With a Colourful History

Vancouver in Canada has been the host city of Celebration of Light ever since 1990. The three-night event brings people together to enjoy a musical firework competition, with teams from different countries competing for the top spot. Last year’s winner was from Akariya Firework Team from Japan and you can see the winning performance right here:

But the competition has always been more than just a firework show. As well as celebrating fireworks, the event has featured different musical performances and great tasting food from local cuisine to international treats. Many locals also take their picnic blankets and enjoy their own food at the waterfront prior to the big display.

The event is also known as the Honda Celebration of Light due to Honda being its current main sponsor. The crowds will gather to watch the fireworks over the English Bay, as fireworks are fired off a floating barge. You can view the displays from the waterfront around English Bay and Burrard Inlet. These are open for public – although you want to reserve a spot early on the day.
It’s also possible to enjoy Celebration of Light from VIP viewing areas. For these, you must book tickets online. Check out the official website for more information.
Each night, an accompanying music festival will take place at Sunset Beach. SHOREFEST is the city’s largest free community concert series with wonderful bands performing and entertaining the crowds.
For the first time in the history of the competition, the displays must highlight a theme. The theme was chosen by the public and it will be ‘Love’ in 2018.

Dates & the Performing Groups
