Tarragona International Fireworks Competition 2017

If you are looking for somewhere exciting to go on a holiday this summer, you might want to consider the Spanish east coast. The city of Tarragona will be hosting a beautiful fireworks competition starting at the end of June. Fireworks competitions are always a treat but especially so when you can stand on a beach enjoying the view. So, what is happening in Tarragona and what can you expect from this extravaganza?

What is Tarragona International Fireworks Competition 2017?

Tarragona International Fireworks Competition is taking place from June 28 to July 1 in 2017. The competition will be the 27th year, as it all started back in 1990. Indeed, the long history of the competition has helped turned this event into one of the most important on the Mediterranean.
The daily event is perfect for the night owls. You will need to head down to the Playa del miracle beachfront every night at 10.30 pm in order to enjoy the fireworks. Just don’t wait until too long to get your spot – it’s estimated that the city will attract over 60,000 visitors throughout the festivities.

Who is taking part in the competition this year?

The participants change each year and the competition to get involved in the main festival is fierce. It is up to a committee to pick the four pyrotechnic teams that get to compete for the main prize: the right to host the main fireworks display at the Santa Tecla Festival. The festival is held in Tarragona on September 23.
The teams for 2017 are:

  • Turís de Turís from Valencia, Spain. You can watch their performance on the opening day on June 28.
  • Hermonas Ferrández de Beniel from Murcia, Spain. The team has been operating since 1892 and they will get to perform on June 29.
  • Martarello S.R.L. D’Arquá Polisine from Italy. The Italian team is hosting the fireworks extravaganza on June 30.
  • Accitana Maria Angustias S.L. de Guadix from Granada, Spain. The responsibility and honour of hosting the last show in the competition go to the Spanish team, which will perform on July 1.
