Philippine International Pyromusical Competition 2019

The Philippine International Pyromusical Competition brings together the world’s best firework groups in an exhilarating contest. The annual competition is about to kick off once again in Manila and here’s everything you need to know about it.

The Competition Format

The annual competition used to be called World Pyro Olympics and it’s been running since 2005. After rebranding, the first Philippine International Pyromusical Competition took place in 2010. This year’s competition aims to celebrate the 10 years of the show.

The competition is held in the capital of the Philippines, Manila. Several companies from different countries come together and put on their best performance. The groups compete over who can put together a stunning fireworks display and do so whilst utilising music.

The Philippine International Pyromusical Competition takes place over 5 weeks with two teams performing each Saturday. Judges choose the winner, although there is an award for audience favourite as well.

Below is the performance by one of last year’s winners Pyrotex Fireworkx from the UK. The group had a tie for the top spot with a German group Steffes-Ollig Feuerwerke. Both are returning to the competition this year so it’s interesting to see what happens!
