Macao International Fireworks Display Contest 2016

The 28th Macao International Fireworks Display Contest is due to take place on five evenings from September 3rd until October 1st. The event is a popular one in a part of the world where they love their fireworks. We only wish it was as simple as taking the aeroplane to Barcelona or driving to our nearest Firework Champions event, as we’d love to experience this in person! Still, YouTube videos will have to do!

What Happens at the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest?

Each event will feature two teams performing a pyromusical display to one set theme. Unlike with traditional pyromusical, there’s a catch! Display teams also have to choreograph their fireworks around a laser light display that accompanies the music. Displays take place at 9pm and 9:20pm local time each Saturday, with plenty of other activities going on around the fireworks displays themselves.
The setting for the displays is the beautiful sea area in front of the Macau Tower.
Let’s take a look at the firing teams taking part in this year’s event by the date they’re performing and the theme of the evening.

Pyro Fantasia on September 3rd

Thailand Fireworks are the first participants this year, and have performed at the Macao International Fireworks Display in the past.
Portugal’s Macedos Pirotecnia are the second team to perform Pyro Fantasia. Macedos have performed at a number of events we’ve previewed so far this year. Below you can check out their display from this year’s Ignis Brunensis in Brno, Czech Republic.

Tribute to Bond on September 10th

While the title of this one doesn’t leave much to the imagination regarding what the music is likely to be, it’s something we can’t wait to see; hopefully there’ll be some great videos available online after the event!
Pyro 2000 from the United Kingdom are the first participants, and will be followed by SUGYP SA of Switzerland.
The below video shows the team from SUGYP SA setting up a display.

Mid-Autumn Harmony on September 15th

This evening’s display will be carried out by two of the teams that will enjoy the shortest journey to Macao.
Japan’s Marutamaya Ogatsu Fireworks Company kick things off, followed by Korea’s Daeshan Fireworks Company.

Stars from Afar on September 24th

The penultimate display on September 24th, called Stars from Afar, will be contested between Italy’s Orzella Fireworks di Orzella Antonio and Canada’s Feu d’artifice Orion.
Check out the Feu d’artifice Orion YouTube Channel for some spectacular fireworks display videos.

Celebration in the Sky on October 1st

The aptly titled Celebration in the Sky closes the 2016 Macao International Fireworks Display Contest. The final evening’s entertainment will be provided by Pyrotechnic Transilvania of Romania, and Hunan Jingtai Fireworks of China.

Macao International Fireworks Display Contest 2016

We can’t wait to see some of the videos from this year’s event. If they’re anything like last year’s, one of which we’ve placed below for you to enjoy, the whole occasion is sure to be another brilliant one.
