Herrenhausen Fireworks Festival 2017

North-German city Hanover will once again host terrific fireworks teams in a fiery, yet friendly competition over five summer evenings. The Herrenhausen Fireworks Festival 2017 will take place between May and September and the team here at Fireworks Crazy can’t wait to see what the participants have come up with this year.
The festival is built around a competition between five fireworks teams that have 25 minutes to woo the audience and judges with their skills. Each team has to create a stunning show, combining music and fireworks in the air and on ground.

When and where does the festival take place?

The Herrenhausen Fireworks Festival takes place in Hannover, Germany. The pyrotechnic shows will be organised on five nights between May and September. This year the show dates are:

  • 20th May
  • 10th June
  • 19th August
  • 2nd September
  • 16th September

Each event starts at 6:00 pm and the final sparks are lit up half an hour before the midnight. The fireworks show by the competing teams will last 25 minutes, but there’s plenty to do and see before this grand finale each night. The program features live music, cabaret shows and outdoor theatre performances – often relating to the country of the team competing on that night. These accompanying performances start at 6:30 pm each day, allowing you enough time to get in and find your favourite things to experience.

The setting for the festival couldn’t be more romantic either. The event, which has been running since 1991, is organised at the historic Herrenhausen Garden – touted as the “Best Historic Garden in Europe”. You can get a glimpse of its glory from the picture above.

Who are the competitors in Herrenhausen Fireworks Festival 2017?

The festival takes place on five nights, each night featuring a different competing team. In 2017, a US team will take part in the event for the first time in 19 years. Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks is an esteemed group that’s been creating pyromusical shows across the US for years.  The US team has the honour of finishing off the festival, as it’s the last team to put on a show on the 16th September.
The other participating teams this year include Astondoa Piroteknia from Spain, which has the nail-biting role of kicking off the event on the 20th May, and an Austrian team called steyFire, performing on the 10th June. England also also has a representative in the competition, with Pyrotex Fireworx set to impress the judges on the 19th August. The second last team to perform on 2nd September will be the Polish team SUREX.
You can get a glimpse of what to expect from the teams by checking out the YouTube video below. It’s a display put together by Pyrotex Fireworx in 2015.

How to get involved?

If you want to experience this fantastic festival, book your tickets to Hannover near one of the event nights. You can find information about the German city on the Hanover tourism website. The site will also have information on the tickets to the event. Hanover offers plenty to do aside from the fireworks festival, so it’s definitely worth considering as a holiday destination.
For those that can’t make the trip this year, Fireworks Crazy’s fireworks offer plenty of relief – you can set up your own magical display and pick music to go along with the sparks and bangs!
