Firework Crazy Meets Lalage Beaumont

Welcome back to the Firework Crazy blog where we celebrate all that is fireworks. Wedding fireworks are becoming increasingly popular as people across the world look to make their special day even more special. With weddings in mind we speak with leading British designer Lalage Beaumont whose elegant mother of the bride outfits and occasion wear have adorned the weddings and celebrations of some of Britain’s most recognisable individuals. Lalage shares her insights into what to wear to a wedding and what design means to her.

What are your top tips for the Mother of the Bride?

Choosing what to wear as a mother of the bride can always be difficult. Traditionally, in terms of colours the mother of the bride was expected to match the colour hues of the bridesmaids. Being the brides big day I would suggest to let her be the guide and  follow the tones, style, colour formality of the event. Nowadays, a  wealth of fashionable options exist that don’t have to be matronly. Ensure that you find and outfit that has a flattering fit, that makes you feel confident and, of course, comfortable.

What should you think about as a wedding guest?

Sometimes it can be a fine line when choosing what to wear as a wedding guest. We all want to create a certain look yet it must always remain appropriate. Dresses and traditional outfits always remain a safe and stylish bet. Easier to wear and more comfortable than a suit, dresses can offer a classic look. Again, make sure the length is appropriate, the cut and style too. With such a wide variety to choose from you can really choose something that is special, that stands out yet does not draw too much attention.

Who are your influences within fashion?

I try to draw inspiration from anything that I appreciate aesthetically. However, the great couturiers of the 50s and 60s, Givenchy, Christian Dior, Yves St. Laurent, Balenciaga have made the biggest impact on my career and my own style. I am also influenced by the smart, clean modern lines of the early 60s and, of course, by the wonderful and iconic style leaders from that era; Jackie ‘O’, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn.

What does design mean to you in fashion?

I am very passionate about designing and making my collections in England. I believe in classic English tailoring, pieces that can be appreciated for now and forever. In terms of my style, I love simplicity of line, cut and intricate detailing to flatter women of any age or shape. Within my collections I always use the very best fabrics to offer create supreme comfort and style. I use beautiful Italian prints on silk cloqué and silk and wool matelassé (used only by the best couturiers in Europe) which are created in Como especially for me with  only a few metres ever printed ensuring exclusivity and individuality. Wonderful Spanish jacquards and brocades glow with the liveliness only fine silk can achieve and my textures are from English tweeds in chanelesque styling,
