The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fireworks 2018

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fireworks is an annual show that combines fireworks with music. You will experience an impressive 45-minutes of the world’s best fireworks while the Scottish Chamber Orchestra will play accompanying music.

This year, the music will be a celebration of Leonard Bernstein, with a selection of his flamboyant music and fun tunes. The second part of the show will feature Gustav Holst’s music, as the orchestra plays songs from The Planets.

During the display, a massive four tonnes of explosives will be set off. This is about 400,000 fireworks so be prepared to experience a show like no other. Here’s a little taste of what to expect:

With the dramatic Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop, this fireworks display is one of the most stunning in the world. It is definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

The Edinburgh Festival Fireworks 2018 will take place on Monday, August 27. The accompanying concert begins at 9.00 pm, while the fireworks start at 9.30 pm. The event will finish at 10.15 pm.

Getting involved without a ticket

Due to its central location, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Fireworks can be experienced without a ticket to the Ross Theatre or the Princes Street Gardens. You can even get to enjoy the orchestra playing, as the concert is streamed live on the radio. Tune in to local radio Forth 1 to enjoy the live broadcast.

For the fireworks, you have multiple viewing alternatives across the city. There is a free family viewing area at Inverleith Park – the proceedings to get in start at 7.00 pm so you want to be there in time to get a good spot.

Whatever spot you choose, make sure to arrive on time. The spots fill up early, especially if the weather is good.
