Da Nang International Fireworks Festival is back for 2017, with some big changes!
Firstly, the name itself is new, as the event was formerly Da Nang International Fireworks Competition. The name change comes on the back of Sun Group being announced as the new organizer of the festival.
The second big change is that the festival will now be an annual event once again, having been held biannually in 2011, 2013, and 2015 over the Vietnam National Reunion Holiday. The event was originally an annual event when founded in 2008, running in 2009 and 2010 before the change.
The third and final big change is that instead of being held over one weekend in March or April, the festival will now consist of five separate fireworks shows held over five Saturday nights, across 11 weeks from 29th April 2017 to 24th June 2017.
Where is Da Nang?
Da Nang is a major port city in Vietnam, and the third largest of all cities in the country.
It’s a beautiful place to spend time either if you’re holidaying there or travelling through Vietnam or the wider South East Asia region, and is within 100km of several stunning UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It’s also a beach city, with miles of stunning beaches if you do want to visit but simply kick back and relax while you’re there.
If you can get there during the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, you’re sure to have a fantastic time.
How Popular is the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival?
The short answer is very popular.
In addition to bringing out thousands of residents of Da Nang, the last event in 2015 attracted an estimated 400,000 tourists to the city. The success of the event is borne out through this number alone; when the event was first held in 2008 it attracted ‘only’ 50,000!
Where in Da Nang is the Festival Held?
The festival takes place on Tran Hung Dao, the major street on the eastern side of the Han River. There was talk of the event taking place at the Asia Park resort, but at time of writing it was to be held on Tran Hung Dao. Fireworks are fired over the river, and the local landmarks and buildings provide a stunning backdrop for the event. Along the street and across the rest of Da Nang attendees will also find a range of other attractions and events taking place at the same time.
Food stalls and festivals, paragliding shows, and international music are among the things you can find and enjoy during Da Nang International Fireworks Festival.
What About the Fireworks?
The theme for this year’s event is Shining Marble Mountains. Named for the marble and limestone hills that can be found south of Da Nang.
Each of the five nights of the festival is also named for the “five elements of the Universe” which are also the names of the five marble mountains themselves.
- 29th April 2017 is Fire Night, and will feature firework teams from Vietnam and Austria.
- Earth Night on 20th May 20177 will feature teams from Japan and Switzerland.
- Metal Night on 27th May 2017 will feature teams from China and Australia.
- Water Night on 3rd June will feature another Australian team and an Italian team.
- The three best performers will return for the final competition, held on Wood Night on 24th June 2017.
