CAT4 Professional Experience Days
Ever wondered what it’s like to fire a professional CAT4 display? Well, now’s your chance!
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a professional Pyrotechnician then this day is a great insight in to what we do. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never lit a firework or you put on several shows a year, this is a fantastic day out and we guarantee that not only will you take away some invaluable lessons from the day, you’ll make some fantastic new friends too!
We’ll be honest, the main reason we hold these days is to recruit new firers. As our business expands we’re always looking for new team members. Each year a handful of attendees will go on to become regular firers for Firework Crazy, with some just offering their services for the busy November season which is when we really need you! The Saturdays either side of Bonfire Night are our busiest nights of the year. Some ‘get the bug’ and will fire as many shows as possible. We produce and fire over 200 shows a year at present so there’s always plenty to go round!
The day will consist of the following…
- A chance to meet the team from Firework Crazy
- Learning about the different types of fireworks
- The difference between Category F2, F3 and Category F4 fireworks
- What makes a firework Category F4
- Site & Display safety
- The importance of PPE
- Fuses and the different types of fuse. Electronic / digital firing and ignitors.
- A practical session including lighting some cat4 materials.
- Plus lots more. And that’s just the day time!!
On the Saturday evening after the training they’ll be the opportunity to come along to a local venue to to help fuse, rig and fire a professional show. Including hand firing cakes, candles and shells. Although we fire all our shows digitally these days using our Cobra Firing System, we believe it’s essential that you know how to hand fire safely. This will be a training display and count towards a show in your BPA log book should you wish to move forward as a professional firer. Should you “get the bug” you will then be given the chance to crew on more shows with Firework Crazy and work towards your BPA Firer Qualification.
Lunch, Dinner and refreshments are provided. You will also receive a copy our our comprehensive training manual. No previous Category 4 experience is necessary and everyone is welcome. Firework Crazy is an equal opportunities employer. We’ve listed below some common questions we get asked. If you have any more, please do give us a call on 01245 354422
FAQ:
Q1: How old do I need to be?
A1: You have to be 18 to be able to partake in the course and fire for Firework Crazy. ID will be required.
Q2: Do I need to be able to drive?
A2: Whilst it’s not essential, the location of our base where our displays are prepared and the vans dispatched is remote and not serviced by public transport. We do have several crew who don’t drive and make arrangements for lifts etc with other crew, but a driving license would be beneficial. If you’re over 25 you’ll also be able to drive our fleet of vans.
Q3: Do you have any female firers?
A3: Yes. We have several female firers and I’m sure they’d welcome some more with open arms, so if you are female. Please don’t be put off.
Q4: Will I get paid?
A4: Yes, all crew are paid from their first crewed show. Some people like to pop a long for a few shows as extras, just to learn the ropes, but once you’re selected as crew for a show you’ll be paid for your time. Pay varies on the size of the show, distance from base, whether you’re a firer or senior firer and the date of the show. Many consider it a hobby that pays! I don’t think there’s many of them about.
Q5: Do i need to live locally?
A5: Living local to our base in Chelmsford is a bonus but not essential. Whilst most of our displays are in the South of the country we fire displays and have crew all over the UK. Some will meet up with a team on site locally to them and during the busy November season they’ll come down to Essex and stay for a few days. We’ll arrange and pay for accomodation if this is the case.
