British Musical Fireworks Championships 2017

The past summer has seen many great firework competitions. We participated in Fireworks Champions 2017 at Eastnor Castle, and Edinburgh International Festival didn’t disappoint with its annual show either. Luckily, the year is not yet over and there are plenty of great fireworks events still to experience.
The British Musical Fireworks Championships in Southport is one such festival. What is the competition about and how to get involved? Here’s a look at what to expect and a few reasons you should find yourself in Southport over the weekend of September 29th – October 1st.

British Musical Fireworks Championships

The competition has been running since 1999. It’s a unique competition because it isn’t just about the fireworks. During the British Musical Fireworks Championships, the teams compete by creating displays that combine the use of fireworks and music. The judges will hope to find the team that displays a high-level of synchronisation in terms of the mood of the music, the effects in the fireworks, and the overall choreography of the various aspects of the display.
The teams competing in the Championships often take months to plan for the displays – you are bound to witness stunning shows that move you. This is undoubtedly one of the best events in terms of great firework shows in the world.

When is the event taking place in 2017?

This year, the British Musical Fireworks Championships takes place on three nights starting on Friday, September 29th and ending on Sunday, October 1st. The displays will be held in Victoria Park in Southport.
You can buy tickets for individual nights or obtain a weekend ticket and experience all the performances. Being an early bird is a good idea – you can purchase discounted tickets from the official website until September 22nd. Act fast!
The gates to the event area open at 18:00 on all nights. The event ends after 21:00 on Friday and Sunday and later at 22:00 on Saturday. Friday and Sunday will feature two displays starting at 20:00 and 20:30, while on Saturday, three teams will compete at 20:00, 20:30 and 21:00. You can enjoy live music prior to the displays.

Who will be competing at British Musical Fireworks Championships 2017?

There will be seven teams competing in 2017. The competition is bound to be heated, as each team is a previous winner of the event. The competing teams are as follows:

  • Flashpoint Fireworks and Westcoast Fireworks on Friday, September 29th
  • Allstar Fireworks, Sirotechnics Fireworks and Phoenix Fireworks on Saturday, September 30th
  • Smart Pyrotechnics and Bright Sparks Fireworks on Sunday, October 1st

The most recent winner in the lot is Bright Sparks Fireworks, which took home the top prize last year. You can see their winning performance here:
