British Fireworks Championships 2017

The UK has plenty of exciting fireworks events throughout the year. We have Bonfire Night and the exciting Firework Champions events that we’ve been covering here on the Firework Crazy blog. However, the British Fireworks Championships is definitely one of the most prestigious of these events. The famous competition is about to take place in Plymouth.

When is the British Fireworks Championships 2017 taking place?

The Championships will light up Plymouth’s Waterfront on August 9th and 10th. The two-day event will feature six firework teams competing for the top spot. There will also be plenty of other entertainment – the Hoe is going to be filled with live music, fun fairs and, of course, tasty treats. Walk along Madeira Road and enjoy the relaxing scenes from afar or right at the heart of it all.

The displays will be fired from the Mountbatten breakwater and you should see them from the Citadel and the Hoe. If you don’t want to be in the midst of it all, you could also view the displays from the Queen Anne Battery area or the Jennycliff area. The event is a popular one – especially when the weather is good – so make sure to make your way to these spots early enough!
The live performances on the Heart FM stage will take place both nights at 7.30pm and 8.45pm. This year’s performances include Michael Collings and Tribal Rights so be sure to check them out.

Who’s competing in the British Fireworks Championships 2017?

There will be six teams competing again for the top spot. The competing teams and the display times are as follows. On Wednesday 9th August, the teams taking the centre stage are:

  • 30pm – Dragon Fireworks from Chertsey, Surrey
  • 50pm – AJ Pyrotechnics from Folkstone, Kent
  • 10pm – The UK Firework & Events Co from North Finchley, London

The teams showing their talent on Thursday 10th August will be:

  • 30pm – Smart Pyrotechnics from Devizes, Wiltshire
  • 50pm – Nemisis Pyrotechnics from Nantwich, Cheshire
  • 10pm – Selstar Fireworks from Selsey, West Sussex

Selstar Fireworks is the only team in the bunch that has actually won the competition. The group took home the top spot in 2007. You can see them perform their magic in the clip below.

Each team will have just 10-minutes to wow the judges. There are two judging panels; one consists of industry experts, while the other has representatives chosen by Plymouth’s organising panel.

Celebrating fireworks

If you’re a big fan of fireworks, the event in Plymouth is definitely worth experiencing. You don’t need to buy tickets to the event – for more hospitality information, check out the official website for Plymouth tourism.
Those who can’t make it to Plymouth, you can always find plenty of exciting videos from the event on YouTube. Don’t forget the ongoing Firework Champions events, organised by MLE Pyrotechnics. There are still a few events coming up, including the show in Eastnor Castle (We’ll be there!).
As always, if you’d like to recreate the magic of firework displays, don’t forget to check the Firework Crazy online store.
