The British Firework Championships are taking place in Plymouth over the next two evenings. Now into their 20th edition, the British Firework Championships is a world famous event that regularly attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the South West during the summer.
If you’re headed down to Plymouth either today or tomorrow, here’s a handy guide with everything you need to know about the British Firework Championships.
Who’s Performing When?
Six display teams are performing at the British Firework Championships, with three on each evening, with the first display beginning at around 9:30pm.
On Tuesday evening it will be the turn of Smart Pyrotechnics, Phoenix Fireworks, and F1 Fireworks to perform. On Wednesday the teams from Aurora Fireworks, Distant Thunder Fireworks, and Gala Fireworks will take over.
Some of these teams are certainly keeping busy at the height of fireworks competition season. F1 Fireworks are performing at Firework Champions Eastnor Castle on September 3rd, while Gala Fireworks won Firework Champions Stanford Hall at the end of July.
Gala Fireworks’ winning display from Firework Champions Stanford Hall can be seen in the video below.
Entertainment at the British Firework Championships 2016
The British Firework Championships take place at Plymouth Hoe, which is a beautiful location in the city. While the firework displays themselves don’t start until 9:30pm as mentioned earlier, the evening’s entertainment kicks off at 6pm with Heart Radio in attendance, live music on stage for an hour before the fireworks begin, and fairground rides and refreshment stalls open for everyone to enjoy upon arrival at the site.
Before heading to the site there are plenty of places to get something to eat and drink around Plymouth Hoe as well as in the city centre. Park and ride buses are operating although it looks like some of the buses back into the city centre stop running quite early, so your best option might be to try and get there early, park up nearby, and be happy with waiting for the crowds to clear when you’re trying to get out. Alternatively, Plymouth is a great city to spend a couple of days, so why not choose to stay over, take in the atmosphere, and relax!
