Add Even More Sparkle – Alternative Wedding Entertainment Ideas

Okay, you’re sorted for pyrotechnics, but what else can you add to inject even more pizazz to your wedding reception? We asked our good friends and entertainment experts at Freak Music for their top pick of unique wedding entertainment ideas.
All of the options presented here can be found and booked at http://www.freakmusic.co.uk/

Surprise!

One of the enduringly popular choices at weddings is a surprise singing waiter act. Professional singers pretend to be staff and then create some diversion like a lost bag or dropped tray of (fake) champagne and the next thing you know your guests are joining in a chorus of 500 Miles.

That’s certainly one of the most popular alternative wedding entertainment ideas but there’s plenty more out there to suit all sorts of budgets too. Tribal pipes and drums are a good lively end to a meal and if any of your guests are up to it they’ll usually let you them have a go on the drums, kids love this stuff.

Turn up the heat

To augment the fireworks, have a look in to a fire act. These acts can come in all shapes and sizes comprising variations on fire sword fighting, fire juggling and of course the old classic fire eating/breathing.

Strings Attached

For slightly higher budgets, electric string ensembles are a popular choice. This can comprise a duo or quartet of performers who would ordinarily be found playing Pachelbel’s Canon as a conventional string act at a ceremony but can also be booked with electric instruments and perform specially arranged tunes from classical, pop and film soundtracks among other pieces.

Around the World

For a more cosmopolitan feel and a slightly more raucous vibe, you can book a raft of world music acts for your event and this covers a multitude of options such as salsa and samba band, sometimes with dance lessons thrown in and a hugely popular option from this broad category is a steel band. They can be booked solo or a full on band and they can either play traditional calypso and Caribbean music of specially arranged pop and swing songs.

Add Noise!

Traditional Celtic drum and pipe troupes always go down well too and are a great way of waking up guests after dinner.  These acts enjoy a bit of audience participation so the kids can have a go on the drums, even the kids in their 40s.

Ariba!

Thanks to the ads for a certain corn based snack, Mariachi bands have become popular in the last few years or so are also a great way of keeping your guests amused. They’ll play traditional Mexican music if required but are generally asked to play specially arranged covers of pop songs such as Don’t You Want Me and Back to Black.

Aaaaand, relax

If you require a more laid back feel for your afternoon drinks and photography session this then a gypsy jazz band is an ideal way to keep guests entertained without raising the decibel levels or going wildly over budget. The musical options can vary with this type of act, they can either be a straight jazz band or more modern pop in a jazzy style.

The Sky’s the Limit…

There are loads more examples of alternative wedding entertainment out there and we’re sure you have seen plenty more, so please let us know what’s the most unusual wedding act you’ve witnessed, we’d love to hear from you.
